The nationally recognised Australian Apprenticeship Scheme combines practical work with structured training to give apprentices and trainees the skills, experience and qualifications needed for employment. There is no upper age limit and apprentices and trainees have a degree of control over how long their course of study will take.

Learning a trade can be a rewarding choice. With major developments under way and a growing economy, there is plenty of work available for skilled trades people. Industry-specific training schemes are also available in the Territory, often as a result of a major project or development of a new industry.

The Australian Apprenticeships Centre in the NT is able to provide you with all sorts of information about apprenticeships and traineeships in the Territory. They are responsible for:

  • advising who to contact if you are looking for an apprenticeship or traineeship or if your looking for an Australian Apprenticeship position
  • explaining the types of financial incentives available to both the employer and apprentice/trainee
  • providing information on the range of apprenticeships and traineeships available in the Northern Territory
  • explaining the range of employment options, e.g. full-time, part-time or school based
  • payment of travel and accommodation subsidies.

More information is available from the Australian Apprenticeships NT website or they can be contacted on 08 8935 8200.
