The Territory has more students enrolled in higher education, per capita, than anywhere else in Australia.

You can choose from a wide variety of Higher Education courses, vocational education and training (VET), and other tertiary courses. In fact, the Territory has more students enrolled in higher education, per capita, than anywhere else in Australia.
Charles Darwin University provides a comprehensive range of education and training opportunities, from training for New Apprenticeships and VET courses to undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs. With campuses in Alice Springs, Katherine, Palmerston and Darwin, as well as several regional study centres, Charles Darwin University plays a dynamic role in the ongoing learning and professional development of a growing number of students Australia-wide.
Pathways are provided into a broad range of courses in traditional areas as well as specialist areas unique to the Territory including tropical and desert studies and Indigenous education and research.
The Territory is home to internationally recognised applied research institutions such as the Menzies School of Health Research and Desert Knowledge Cooperative Research Centre.
Like other Australian universities, the academic year runs over the two semesters, starting in mid to late February and finishing in November. The University offers two enrolment rounds a year.
The Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education is another unique Territory institution. The Institute currently enrolls more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at the higher education level than any other tertiary institution in Australia. The majority of the institute’s students are mature-aged – between 30 and 45 years – while about 60 per cent are women.
In addition, there are about 60 private training organisations registered in the Territory. The training they provide is recognised in every State and Territory in Australia under the Australian Quality Training Framework Standards and the Australian Qualifications Framework.
Most tertiary education providers offer courses through different study modes (internal, external, or something in between) to make it easier for people to combine personal development with work or other commitments.
Alternatively, with broadband, ISDN or satellite internet connections available in most places, you can always decide to link up with any other study provider around the world.
