Several sailboats on a calm sea

Nhulunbuy, a working town supporting the Alcan Gove Alumina Refinery and mining operation, has been blessed with a perfect location: it's set on the Gove Peninsula, right on the Arafura Sea, with pristine wilderness areas just a stone's throw away.

Nhulunbuy is heaven for sailors, anglers, four wheel drive adventurers, bush walkers and bird watchers. Locals enjoy fishing, boating, and four wheel drive excursions to exquisite beach and wilderness areas.

The town provides well developed educational, social, health, sporting, cultural and shopping facilities for its residents as well as the Aboriginal homeland communities of East Arnhemland.

Local attractions include the Yirrkala Arts and Crafts Museum and the Nambara Arts and Crafts Centre. These are places where you can really appreciate the power of traditional Aboriginal culture.

The Gove Peninsula is home to the Yolngu people, who celebrate and share their cultural inheritance annually with the Garma Festival. The world renowned rock band Yothu Yindi also calls the area home.
